Teaching Philosophy

I believe that an individual becomes a better, more rigorous scholar through the act of teaching. Teaching and independent research are not distinct entities that have no bearing on each other. By teaching, even subjects that are not directly related to your research agenda, you are forced to confront ideas in their most basic and barest form and when explaining them in detail to students, the limitations of the discipline, the texts, and your own work are laid bare and the end result is a more nuanced understanding for all involved.
